Everywhere
we turn, motivational speakers and self-help gurus talk about loving ourselves
and offer paths to self-love. Yet their message is often received at
surface-level affirmations or worldly measures of worth - our appearance,
achievements, wealth, or status. Or we find our core belief systems (our
subconscious) too powerful to overcome. While well-meaning friends, religious
leaders, and mentors constantly remind us to be kind, generous, and
compassionate toward others, how often do we deeply explore what it truly means
to love ourselves beyond these superficial metrics?
There's
a common misconception that self-love equals selfishness. Many associate it
with vanity, blind ambition, or disregard for others. However, true self-love
is fundamentally different from self-absorption. It's about recognizing our
inherent worthwhile remaining mindful and considerate of others.
The Cost of Self-Neglect
When
we fail to value ourselves, we often fall into destructive patterns:
Ego Power: Unable to find genuine
self-love, we attempt to prove our worth through displays of power and control.
Jealousy: We become consumed by envy, which corrupts our spirit and
leads to strife.
Negative Thinking: We develop harsh judgments about others, whether
they're successful or struggling, wealthy or poor.
The
Path to Self-Value
Self-care
isn't selfish - it's essential. Without dedicated time for spiritual
nourishment, we risk moving through life like zombies, disconnected from our
true purpose. This spiritual care can take many forms:
Mindfulness practices
Quiet time in nature
Prayer and meditation
Breath work
Positive mantras (like "no
weapon formed against me shall prevail")
Journaling
Self-reflection
The Power of Letting Go
When
we choose to "let go and let God" - setting aside our doubts, past
disappointments, and rigid religious ideologies - remarkable transformations
begin. This isn't always easy, particularly because many of us weren't taught
to value ourselves. Sometimes, the message of self-love doesn't fully resonate
until we're ready to receive it.
Breaking Free from Guilt
Guilt
can be a powerful barrier to self-love. We carry guilt for our actions and
inactions, our thoughts and missed opportunities. Some of us harbor such
deep-seated negative beliefs that we feel guilty for simply existing - and then
feel guilty about feeling guilty.
Here
is the truth: guilt doesn't have to hold you back from building a genuine
loving relationship with yourself (or others). Grace is available to
everyone, whether we feel deserving or not. As John 1:9 reminds us, "If
we confess our sins, our Creator is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us
from all unrighteousness."
If you’re struggling with guilt –
try doing a breathwork session for guilt release. Use this often as you need as your journey of
healing progresses.
Discovering Your Divine Worth
Perhaps
you struggle with recognizing your inherent value. Maybe you've rarely
experienced others acknowledging your worth. Remember Jeremiah 1:5:
"Before you were even born God chose you for a special purpose."
Even
if you think you already love and know yourself well, viewing your worth
through the lens of Holy Divine energy can open entirely new levels of
self-understanding and acceptance. This isn't just about feeling good about
yourself - it's about recognizing the sacred nature of your being and living
from that awareness.
When
we truly love ourselves, we become better equipped to love others. Our
relationships deepen, our purpose clarifies, and we begin to embody the divine
love we were created to express.
